Backpack? Check. Lunchbox? Check. Teeth cleaning? Check!
The 2019 school year is almost upon us and the back-to-school lists, that every parent dreads, have been sent out. There is one important thing that your school left off that list: the back-to-school dental checkup.
Below are some tips to have a successful dental checkup to ensure your child’s teeth shine as bright as their future:
- It’s important to encourage your child to brush twice a day, for two minuets, to keep those cavities away.
- Don’t schedule your child’s dentist appointment during their naptime or their day at the dentist will be most challenging. Take into account if your child is cranky or had a bad day, they might not have the energy to make it through the appointment.
- If one of your children has been to the dentist before and it’s the younger sibling’s first time – schedule the older child first to act as a role model to show the younger one how it’s done.
- It’s important to remember to stay strong and stay calm if your child starts to be uncooperative during their visit. Give the doctor time to try and positively turn the visit around.
If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s dental health, be sure to grab your dentist’s card because accidents are bound to happen whether your child is in sports, recess, or just walking down the school hallways.
